How to manually save a CSV file with UTF-8 encoding in MS Office

Most data upload processes in the admin system require spreadsheets be saved in CSV UTF-8 comma delimited) format, as opposed to XLS, XLSX, TXT, etc.

Below are the steps, depending on the version of Microsoft Office you are using.

MS Office 2016+

  1. Click File then Save As
  2. In the Save As window choose Browse
  3. In the Save As dialog click the Save as type drop down
  4. Select the CSV UTF-8 (comma delimited) (*.csv) option
  5. Click Save

MS Office 2013 and older

Older versions of Excel don't have an encoding option so you must use Notepad to change the file to UTF-8:

  1. Right click the file and select Open with Notepad
  2. Click File, Save As
  3. In the Save As dialog, click the Encoding drop down
  4. Select UTF-8
  5. Click Save
